The Goth Father is a gothic comedy character created and performed by Craig Gilman — a darkly theatrical priest from the fictional “Church of Goth.”
Blending stand-up comedy, parody songs, audience participation, mock sermons, and surreal humour, the act draws inspiration from goth culture, horror films, alternative music, and classic British comedy. Performances combine theatrical storytelling with sharp observations about modern life, identity, outsiders, religion, and the absurdity of being human.
Part comedy set, part alternative church service, The Goth Father invites audiences to temporarily join the “goth congregation” through gothic blessings, parody hymns, strange rituals, and darkly funny reflections delivered with a mixture of sincerity, satire, and playful mischief.
The act has been described as “a fabulous alternative” to traditional stand-up, blending “morbid wit with surprisingly relatable observations about the human condition.” Audience reviews have praised the performances as “bold, brilliant, and brilliantly delivered,” combining “satire and social commentary” with a style that is both hilarious and thought-provoking.
Since debuting in August 2024 at Spitfire Comedy, The Goth Father has continued to evolve into a unique live experience sitting somewhere between a comedy gig, a gothic cabaret, and a very unusual church service.
